Abstract Three tunnels of the Guangzhou Metro Line 6 will pass under the Guangzhou Metro Line 2 and the running tunnel at the Haizhu Square Station, which makes construction extremely difficult due to the small vertical distance between these structures. In this paper, the overall construction principle and scheme is presented in light of the spatial relationship of the bored tunnels of the Zhuhai Square Station and the existing Guangzhou Metro Line 2 and the engineering hydrogeological conditions. The detailed construction and monitoring techniques for the platform tunnel of the left bore and the running tunnels of both the left and right bores passing under the existing Line 2 are described. Ultimately, the bored tunnels passed through the existing Guangzhou Metro Line 2 safely and smoothly, ensuring the safety of surrounding buildings and normal operation of the Guangzhou Metro Line 2.
