Abstract:
The Dongshankou station of the Guangzhou Metro line 6 has been built featuring the "tunnel going first" and subsequent "expanded excavation by shield." This article introduces the construction techniques, characteristics, and difficulties of constructing the metro station based on the expanded excavation of the station platform tunnel after the running tunnel had been excavated through the station area. This practice indicated that the combination of shield and cutting (bored) excavation was one of the key means to solving the conflicts between running tunnels and station construction in urban areas.
