Abstract:
Since karst water inflow and mud burst occurrences are very detrimental to tunnel construction, prediction of the karst development and distribution as well as filling properties within the tunnel location and surrounding zones is necessary and urgent. Using the successful case of the No.2 West Lake tunnel on the Naxi-Guizhou Expressway as an example, the adopted comprehensive geological forecasting techniques, which mainly consisted of the geological survey method, pre-probing method through the pilot drift, and electromagnetic wave reflection method, are introduced and analyzed in detail. The results show that the comprehensive geological forecasting techniques play an effective role and provide a scientific basis for observational construction.
